Description:
 
The Department Manager provides strong day to day leadership of staffing to achieve sales initiatives, merchandising goals, expense control, and overall financial and operational performance of their department. Provides a safe and compelling shopping experience and working environment for our customers and Team Members. Drives and models the company's values of Honestly, Trustworthiness and Mutual Respect within the store and the community. Proactively take steps to ensure all Team Members, including themselves deliver a "wow" shopping experience for the customer.
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
 
  • Supports, mentors, coaches and trains Department Team Members to maintain the highest level of productivity by ensuring strong technical skills and on-going product knowledge.
  • Consistently demonstrates outstanding remarkable service and holds himself/herself and Team Members accountable to a high standard of service excellence
  • Responsible for written reports and documentation, including (but not limited to), operations benchmarking, health/food safety documentation, HR & payroll documentation, file maintenance.
  • Responsible for overall department cleanliness, sanitation, presentation and ensuring that the Department passes all health & food safety audits.
  • Responsible for implementing all department initiatives on time and within budget, that support corporate and store objects
  • Responsible for implementing and training Team Member on all policies and procedure including standard operating procedures, health and safety including equipment, WHIMIS, food safety, loss prevention and human resources policies.
  • Achieve departments financials objectives through effective merchandising techniques and inventory management.
  • Builds and maintains high team member engagement through positive communication, delivery of timely and effective performance appraisals and a mindset of continuous improvement.
Requirements:
 
  • Proven understanding of prepared foods department product knowledge.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience managing teams.
  • Strong financial acumen and KPI understanding.
  • Demonstrated results in coaching and developing others
  • Knowledge of Employment Standards, WHIMIS, Food Safety and Loss Prevention practices.
  • Knowledge of temperature control, merchandising and cross-merchandising techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and a proven ability to lead through influencing required.
  • Flexibility – ability to adapt quickly to new situations as well as new and changing processes, programs and services.
Working Conditions:
 
  • Work is performed in a standard store environment with occasional participants in meetings at the office.
  • Travel to other stores or Support Centre office may be required.
  • Team members may be cross trained or transferred to departments or stores on an as needed basis based on the needs of the business.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays as business needs require.
  • Ability to work in a variety of store environments which include standing for long periods, repetitive/heavy lifting, occasionally varying temperatures including cold/refrigerated environments.
